Abstract
Pouzdanost i sigurnost željezničkog prometa vrlo je složena i kompleksna problematika, koja zahtijeva egzaktan i suptilan pristup rješavanju. Za učinkovito funkcioniranje sigurnosnog sustava željezničkog prometa potrebno je ažurno pratiti pojave koje dovode do nastanka izvanrednog događaja na željezničkoj mreži. U radu su, nakon predstavljanja najvažnijih značajki nacionalnih sigurnosnih pokazatelja, analizirani izvanredni događaji po vrstama, tipu i učestalosti u Regionalnoj jedinici Zapad. Stanjem sigurnosti je relativno zadovoljavajuće ukoliko se uspoređuje s cjelokupnom mrežom ali isto tako postoji veliki prostor za njezino daljnje unapređenje.
