Abstract
S obzirom na to da je riječni promet najekonomičniji i ekološki najprihvatljiviji promet onda se dolazi do zaključka da Dunav kao jedna od najdužih rijeka u Europi ima veliki zadatak u transportu tereta kroz Europu do njenih članica. Luke poput Nurberga i Constante dobro su iskoristile svoj položaj na Dunova i na njihovom području manipulira se velikim količinama prometa. Preko Dunava, i posredno Drave, riječni promet Republike Hrvatske također je dio europskog prometnog sustava. Međutim, potencijal luke Vukovar nije iskorišten i udio riječnog prometa je gotovo zanemariv. Bolja situacija mogla bi se ostvariti podizanjem plovnosti Drave, Save i Kupe i daljnjom modernizacijom riječnih luka te izgradnjom kanala Dunav – Sava.
