Abstract	Poznavanje organizacije i funkcioniranje bankarstva postaje danas sve zahtjevnije. Ova se činjenica može sagledati u stalnoj transformaciji novčano-kreditnog, bankarskog te deviznog sustava i njegovoj institucionalnoj i funkcionalnoj prilagodbi tim promjenama. Banka i ostale financijske institucije u suvremenim gospodarskim uvjetima ulaze u sve segmente života. Ove institucije utječu svojim funkcijama i poslovnim aktivnostima na cjelokupne novčane tijekove ali i na likvidnost gospodarstva pri čemu moraju osigurati stabilnost gospodarskih zbivanja i prihvatljiv rast. Dinamične promjene u ovoj sferi pred zemlje u tranziciji, pa tako i pred Hrvatsku, stavljaju nužnost traženja rješenja za postojeće stanje proizašlo je iz ovog procesa i prilagodbe, i njihovog bankovnog sustava tim zahtjevima. U radu je uz opis bankarskog poslovanja općenito i u Hrvatskoj opisan i položaj te poslovanje Erste banke kao konkretan primjer.
