Abstract
Prilikom definiranja informacijskih sustava, definiciju je najlakše iznijeti ukoliko se analiziraju funkcije informacijskog sustava. Informacijski sustavi su poslovni sustavi, čiji je zadatak prikupljanje, pohrana, obrada i isporuka potrebnih informacija unutar neke organizacije. Izgradnja informacijskog sustava je dugotrajan i složen proces. Obilježja informacijskog sustava proizlaze iz obilježja poslovnog sustava i organizacije za koju se informacijski sustav izgrađuje. Informacijski sustavi u trgovini moraju u potpunosti odgovarati potrebama poduzeća, odnosno biti izgrađeni na način da omogućuju neometano odvijanje svake poslovne funkcije te pružati potporu u svakom dijelu prodajnog ciklusa. Informacijski sustavi u trgovini izgrađeni su prema potrebama dijela prodajnog ciklusa. U trgovini se razlikuju dva segmenta poslovanja, a to su „front office“ poslovanje i „back office“ poslovanje. Prema tim segmentima poslovanja, razlikuju se i informacijski sustavi koji se u svakom segmentu poslovanja primjenjuju.
